Good news, the first launch for the year is now on the schedule, April 2nd, 2016. Weather permitting of course at Verne's field.
We don't have a waiver, so this will be an LPR/MPR launch. If you've got something not too high flying, which meets "Class 1" FAA requirements, those would be good too.
Quick reminder on the FAA Class 1: 1. No more than 125 grams (4.4oz) of propellant; 2. Slow burning propellant (BP or APCP composites both ok); 3. Is made of paper, wood, or breakable plastic; 4. Contains no substantial metal parts; 4. Weighs no more than 1,500 grams (53oz), including motor.

What do you folks think about getting a Facebook page set up? I would be happy to do it and it may help us to get more interest in the upcoming launch as well as our group. What do you think?
I went over to see Verne this afternoon to see some of his new rockets, VERY impressive - he is quite the rocketry craftsman. He mentioned the launch email, which I had not seen. I checked in my junk mail and there it was. I will be working to get a few finished up for the launch too. So, if you didn't get it, check there.
Will we have a vendor for this first one?

I haven't heard from Gary yet, but I'm also heading to Minneapolis between then and now. So I'm probably going to meet up with Gary to grab a couple motors. I'd be fine with picking stuff up if you guys need, assuming I'll be able to get together with him.
I'm fine with you also setting up something on Facebook, just that I don't use it at all, and don't plan to. So I'd say just make sure that we don't have anything which would exclude people not using facebook.

I'll be sending out the reminder notification in the next day or so, with times and directions, once I get confirmation that the proposed times are ok with Verne.
Meeting up with Gary in Minneapolis this weekend to grab a couple motors, but I'm actually better stocked than I remembered for this launch. I'll be sticking with pretty much just 24mm stuff this time around. Maybe some A/B/C low powers if I'm in the mood.

As promised, here's the final reminder with date, time, and directions.
April 2nd, 2016 Time: 11am till 3pm (give or take). Location: Verne's Field
Directions: (Provided by Verne) From Brookings head west on hwy 14. Go west through Lake Preston Turn right/north on an oil road 1/2 mile west of Lake Preston which is 441 Ave. Go north 8 miles on oil road to stop sign. Keep going north 3 1/2 miles on gravel. Sign on mail box. Jensen Repair. West side of road
I'll have my phone with me, if there's signal. 605-237-5830
We don't have a waiver for his field, and it's our first time there to evaluate it for potential future launches. So we'll be sticking with low and mid power rockets. We can also fly some baby H's if they are still within the FAA's "Class 1" designation. This means no more than 4.4oz of propellant in total, and 53oz or less at launch.
RSVP if you can, but you're all welcome to attend even as a surprise guest. Since we haven't voted on our bylaws yet, and haven't agreed on any launch or membership fee's, we'll keep any club donations totally voluntary for this launch.

Keeping an eye on the weather, just had a story pop up today about an arctic cold, hard freezes, and all that fun stuff for the first week of April. Good chance it could affect the launch.

Good news is that the weather forecasts for Saturday keep getting better as we get closer. So I'm pretty optimistic. Right now we're looking at mid to high 40's, wind in the teens. If that holds up we will be flying.
Still watching it just in case.

Bad news, forecast has taken a turn for the worse from a rocket perspective. They're now predicting high teens to 20mph winds, with gusts to 30mph, and peak winds for the day right in when we'd be flying. If that doesn't improve, we'll have to scrub.

Sorry, guys, forecast just keeps getting windier. Winds steady in the low 20's, gusting over 30. Outside safe launch conditions.
April 2nd launch is now officially cancelled due to weather.

Dang! I'm sorry to hear that the weather is working against us. I really wanted to make the drive down that way to meet you all, I was even working on a mid power rocket that I could load with some small motors I recently made to see if I still remember all of the right details... Hopefully next time.
Jumping over to the motor thread.....

I'll be scheduling up a date for May in the next few days. My schedule is pretty packed, but there's plenty of weekends.
